Note - Historic Bank of Toronto $1, 1856

Historic

Country: Canada Year issue: 1856 Sale date: 2011-12-11 Bids: 1 Price*: 5500

Rare bank note - Canada, year issue - 1856. The Bank of Toronto, One Dollar, 1856, CH#715-10-02R, Remainder, graded by PMG AU-50, with Exceptional Paper Quality. Only 4 known issued notes, all graded Poor to Good, with 2 in institutional collections. This note is an unsigned, unnumbered remainder. This is the first issue for the Bank of Toronto. It is absolutely stunning, as the back is fully engraved, with the familiar conjoined portraits of Queen Victoria and Albert. However, all collectors have only seen these portraits framed by the numerals 5, 10, 20, or 50. This is the only example with the portrais framed by two numeral 1s. Please remember that the 1859 issue had a plain back. As such, this 1856 issue has an iconic back design. This note is unique as it is one of only 4 remainders from a cut sheet of notes. All the notes graded AU, and this is the only example designated EPQ. The sheet was unique and from the Bank of Toronto archives. As such, these notes are essentially un-improvable. If you want an issued note, you will have to wait fro one of the privately owned rags to enter the marketplace. Bank note price 11 December 2011 5500 *
